No Hedgehogs are Harmed in the Making of our Products!

When a customer pleads and begs you to bring in a yarn, what do you do? Well, you get excited! I was approached about carrying Hedgehog Fibres just shy of a year ago. So let me be honest, I had never heard of them but after seeing their instagram posts, I fell in love with the speckled, gorgeousness. I decided to send them an email to inquire about wholesale. The following is the response I received…

Thank you for contacting us. Hope you are well today! You have a lovely store and we would be happy for you to stock our yarn! However, due to the high volume of orders currently, we now have a wait list for new retailers.

Oh, so sad for us but it is always good to hear a small business is succeeding. I promptly requested to be put on the wait list and figured I would never hear from them again.

Several months passed and as more customers inquired about Hedgehog Fibres. I sadly told them I was on a waiting list but didn’t have much hope. – Boom – You already know the ending to this story – WE MADE IT to the TOP of the LIST!!!

Ok – for those of you who do not know who Hedgehog Fibres is, let me enlighten you. Hedgehog Fibres is an Irish artisan yarn and fibre dyeing studio located in Co. Cork, Ireland. Now I know what you are thinking. This is an Irish gal with a love of color and a rich history in fibers, spinning, knitting, etc. Me Too! Surprise, Beata Jezek does have a background in fibers but the twist to her story is that she is not Ireland born but originally from Slovakia. She, however, has called Ireland her home for over a decade.

Beata confesses, “Soon after I took up knitting, I realized I really wanted to create my own yarn line of soft, squishy yarns in beautiful colours. It’s the colours I want to knit with, the colours I want to wear and the colours I can’t live without.”

Did you notice, Beata loves colors. And that is very obvious looking at her yarn offering. You might ask, “Hedgehog is colorful but are they soft to the feel as many of us demand?” The answer is yes. They are squishy and adorable. Stop into Crafthouse for close up and personal squishiness experience or take our word for it and order online today (Click Here) to begin your love affair with Hedgehog Fibres. We currently carry Merino DK and hope to expand soon.

Oh – a fun fact…Beata’s last name, Jezek, means hedgehog and she wants to assure you – “No Hedgehogs are harmed in the making of our products!”

Have you experienced Hegehog Fibres? What have you made using their yarns?

Happy Crafting,

Sonya
